What Is Your Big Dream?

Are you ready to DREAM BIG?

This week we are walking through the door of possibilities and we are making ourselves open to any and all dreams.  Yes, I know you have MS, but you also have a life and had a life before you were diagnosed with MS.

For many of us our dreams have changed since that day, but for some of us we still in the bottom of our hearts have those dreams that were so big were might have even been afraid to voice them!

But guess what? Today you are not only going to give them a voice, but you are going to make those dreams a part of your reality again.

Gina Greenlee hits the bullseye with her quote…and that is why we are going to do exactly what she suggests.  We are going to first explore what your dreams might be, then we are going to commit them to paper so that they do become a solid object in the universe and not just a wish or a fleeting fancy.

Sometimes, in the face of chronic illness, it all becomes so overwhelming that it is hard to imagine what our lives would be like if we could just do anything we desired. But that is what I am going to ask you to do…not only imagine it but feel it.

For the first exercise, you need to find a comfy chair (or floor) and just close your eyes.  No meditation necessary now, because all you have to do is imagine….imagine…imagine…your ideal day.

From the moment you open your eyes in the morning, where are you?

Are you in a small cabin on a mountain in the Sierra Nevadas?

Or maybe you are in a loft apartment in New York?

A  villa in Spain?

What type of floors do you have?

What is the weather like?

Who is there beside you?

Do you have a four-poster bed? Or are you perfectly refreshed from sleeping on a Japanese mat?

These details may sound silly to you right now, but they are going to help you figure out what it is you want to do in life.  So stick with me…and let’s continue.

What are you wearing?

What is the first thing you do when you get out of bed?

What’s on the menu for breakfast?

When you get dressed for the day, what type of clothes will you wear?

Will you have a job outside the house? Or are you a kitchen entrepreneur?

How will you pass the hours in the morning?

At lunchtime, what do you eat? Are you alone? Do you have friends and family there?

How does that afternoon look?

Fill it up by doing every little thing that makes you smile.

The day is going along quite swimmingly…so how does it feel?

You are in the middle of a rewarding, ideal day that only YOU could imagine.

Notice the colors that surround your home.  The style of furniture.

If you are in an office, design that office right in your head!

Make it so real you can actually feel yourself working there.

If you are outside in a garden, what type of plants did you plant?

Smell the freshness of the flowers

As evening rolls in where are you spending it?

Dinner with friends or a dinner date?

At home with the pet of your dreams sitting beside you.

How do you wind down from this glorious, busy, fruitful day?

A good book? A long bath?

A game of chess?

OR a phone call to loved ones far away?

As you get ready to retire for the evening,

you are feeling fulfilled and grateful for the chance to have a day such as this.

You do your nightly rituals. (yes, pay attention to what they are)

and you easily, peacefully fall asleep.

You may think this is a silly exercise and that it is not realistic to dream this into existence.  But I am going to disagree because we not only have the ability to dream it into reality we have the right to do so.  You were born with certain inalienable rights….the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

And what you did is a step towards that pursuit of happiness.  Finding happiness in your surroundings, attitude toward others and your vocation will lead to a stronger, healthier life.  So I bequeath to you the gift of FREEDOM.   You are now free to find that which fulfills you and makes you smile.  Use this gift for the rest of your life, promise that you won’t forget you are a person of possibilities.  And, although flawed, like all of us in some ways, you have everything you need to make this life your own and to give back to others who need your help.

What a wild and wonderful life you are about to have!
